When is Massage NOT appropriate for your horse?
Most horses can really benefit from massage therapy, however, there are some instances where the massage should not be performed.
If I decline to work on your horse for the reasons listed below, please do not be offended! I am happy to reschedule appointments to a later date when I feel massage will not be beneficial for your horse.
Contraindications:
-Dehydration
-Unexplained swelling or heat
-Open wounds that have not been addressed
-Any pending colic signs
-Horses who exhibit signs of Azoturia or 'Tying-up'
-Horses who show signs of contagious illness or horses in quarantine
-Barns who are under quarantine
-Pregnant horses require altered massage sessions
***Due to the possibility of post-massage soreness, massage should not be performed less than a week before showing for new client horses.***
