When is Massage NOT appropriate for your horse?

Most horses can really benefit from massage therapy, however, there are some instances where the massage should not be performed.

If I decline to work on your horse for the reasons listed below, please do not be offended! I am happy to reschedule appointments to a later date when I feel massage will not be beneficial for your horse.

Contraindications:

-Dehydration

-Unexplained swelling or heat

-Open wounds that have not been addressed

-Any pending colic signs

-Horses who exhibit signs of Azoturia or 'Tying-up'

-Horses who show signs of contagious illness or horses in quarantine

-Barns who are under quarantine

-Pregnant horses require altered massage sessions

***Due to the possibility of post-massage soreness, massage should not be performed less than a week before showing for new client horses.***
